Supreme Court vs. Circuit Court
The Tennessee Supreme Court and the Davidson County Circuit are both part of the state legal system but serve different purposes. The Supreme Court is the highest in the state and has the last say in all legal matters in the state. It does not hear any trials but will review decisions and hear appeals from the lower courts in the state such as the circuit court and criminal court. Another responsibility of the Supreme Court is handling issues concerning the state's laws and constitutions. On the other hand, the Circuit Court is the superior court equivalent and holds jurisdiction over court cases at the county level. It hears civil and criminal trials and handles appeals from lower courts such as the general sessions. Unlike the Supreme Court which serves the entire state, the Circuit County only handles the county where it is located.
